Congratulations! You have successfully navigated the escrow process and followed our tips on things to do before closing escrow. Your real estate agent has given you keys to your new home, but there is still work to do after you close escrow. The goal is to turn over as many rocks so that if and when the time comes, you’ve reviewed some or all of these items and you’re ready.
Call your insurance agent to review the details of your new policies (Hazard and Umbrella). If the loan is impounded, make sure they have the correct lender information.
Even if your loan is impounded, make sure you know who to contact to ensure property taxes and insurance are paid. This is so important!
Request your Final Closing Package and copies of all recorded documents from your Escrow Officer.
Calendar all major benchmarks and add them weekly/monthly/yearly to remind you. I even calendar trash pick and street cleaning days.
Save your final settlement statement – from your Closing Package – and remind yourself to email your accountant for the following tax year.
Start a handyman list of all your favorite vendors starting with landscape maintenance, etc.
